Fernando Obelleiro Basteiro
Profession
EM3WORKS co-founder. CEO. Full Professor at the University of Vigo.
Professional Experience
Fernando Obelleiro Basteiro holds a PhD in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Vigo. He is currently a Professor at the University of Vigo.
His main scientific achievements include the authorship of more than 100 articles in JCR indexed journals (34 in the first quartile Q1), 163 contributions to conferences and 5 book chapters. His scientific papers total 1278 citations (Scopus), with an h-index of 20 (Scopus). To date, he has supervised a total of 6 doctoral theses, with another 2 currently in progress. Currently he has been awarded 4 six-year research periods.
He has recently been awarded two international prizes for his work in the application of large computational resources to the resolution of problems in electromagnetism: the PRACE AWARD'09 AT THE INTERNATIONAL SUPERCOMPUTING CONFERENCE ISC'2009 as the best research work in supercomputing in 2009; and the ITANIUM INNOVATION AWARDS 2009 in the category “Computationally Intensive Applications”. Awarded by the Itanium Solutions Alliance (Intel) on 23/09/2009 in San Francisco.
His main lines of research are: Computational electromagnetics, Surface Integral Equations (SIE), Multilevel Fast Multiple Algorithm (MLFMA), Method of Moments (MoM); High performance computing (HPC); Metamaterials, Plasmonics, Biosensing, Nanoantennas, Nanotechnology; Radar imaging (ISAR); Simulation, reduction, control and measurement of radar equivalent cross section (RCS); radar signature and infrared signature characterization; Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC, EMI, EMR); automotive radar; antenna design and communications systems; electronic warfare systems.
Related to these lines of research is its technology transfer activity through different R&D projects and contracts with national and foreign companies and institutions. He has led more than a hundred R&D projects mainly in the fields of: electromagnetic compatibility (EMC, EMI, EMR) in complex military environments (ships, airplanes, helicopters, etc.), characterization of radar signature (RCS, ISAR, etc.) and infrared signature of ships, communications and electronic warfare systems, planning and design of radio stations, antenna design, etc.
